CASE STUDY
Moneybase runs analytics on live Couchbase data in Microsoft SQL Server
Calamatta Cuschieri Moneybase keeps operational workloads on Couchbase. Gluesync replicates those changes into Microsoft SQL Server on Azure, turning nested documents into tables the reporting stack can use.
THE CHALLENGE
Operational Couchbase, analytics on SQL Server
Moneybase’s operational data lives in Couchbase (7.2, on-premises on Kubernetes; Capella is a later path). Analytics and historical reporting live in Microsoft SQL Server on Azure. The job was to capture changes, flatten nested JSON — including geospatial documents — into SQL tables, and keep the warehouse current instead of waiting on a nightly refresh. Kafka or custom connectors would have meant more code to own. They did not take that path. Couchbase Sync Gateway is part of the customer-facing app; this project is not a Couchbase Mobile or field-sales story. It is CDC from the operational store into SQL Server.
- CDC from Couchbase Eventing Gluesync reads the Couchbase change feed and writes into Microsoft SQL Server on Azure.
- Nested documents as tables JSON and geospatial documents are modeled in Gluesync so the analytics stack queries relational tables.
- No Kafka, no custom connectors The pipeline is Gluesync. Moneybase did not stand up Kafka or maintain a one-off connector for this path.
- Expire after replicate Documents that should not stay in Couchbase can be TTL-expired after they have been replicated.
The solution
Why Gluesync
Gluesync sits on Couchbase Eventing, reads the change feed, and writes into Microsoft SQL Server. Modeling happens in Gluesync: nested documents become relational tables. After a document is replicated, Moneybase can expire it from Couchbase with TTL when it no longer belongs in the operational store.
Gluesync takes the Couchbase change feed and lands it in Microsoft SQL Server as tables. Nested documents are modeled on the way through. Moneybase gets analytics on operational data without standing up Kafka or writing connectors.
About Moneybase
Moneybase is the digital finance platform of Calamatta Cuschieri Moneybase plc, Malta. Licensed by the MFSA. Payments, investments, wallets, SEPA, and cards. The company states it is trusted by over 50,000 customers. Featured on Bloomberg TV and Microsoft Stories. CEO: Alan Cuschieri. Direct Gluesync customer.
About Gluesync
Gluesync is MOLO17's real-time data integration platform. It captures changes from operational databases and delivers them to analytics and application targets with the same modeling, retry, and observability on every pipeline. This story is Couchbase to Microsoft SQL Server. Connect is not GA and is not part of this deployment.
